Canes Too Much for Blue Devils on the Road

DURHAM, N.C. – The University of Miami volleyball team eclipsed the .300 hitting mark for the eighth time this season Thursday night as the Hurricanes took down homestanding Duke by a 3-0 count inside Cameron Indoor Stadium. UM took the win on scores of 25-12, 25-16 and 25-15.

Miami (22-3, 13-3 Atlantic Coast Conference) hit .333 in the match and limited the Blue Devils to just a .074 clip on the night. For the Blue Devils, the hitting percentage was a season-low mark in ACC play.

Duke (17-8, 11-5 ACC) did not put a single player in double figures for kills as it was Jeme Obeime leading the way for the Blue Devils with seven, followed by Amanda Robertson with six.

In earning their seventh consecutive win, the Hurricanes trailed for a total of four service points on the night, all of them early-on in the first and second set.

Senior middle blocker Ali Becker registered a team season-best .700 hitting percentage, also a career-high for the Katy, Texas native, in placing a match-high 15 kills on 20 swings against just a single error. She would go on to add two digs and three blocks. Senior All-America outside hitter Lane Carico posted a season-high .433 clip in collecting her team-high 19th double-double – and upping her career total to a school-best 89 double-double performances for her career – by putting down 14 kills and sprawling out for 13 digs.

Redshirt freshman middle blocker Emani Sims also eclipsed the .400 hitting mark for the Hurricanes, recording seven kills on 14 attacks for a .429 hitting percentage. Redshirt senior setter Katie Gallagher, this week’s Co-ACC Player of the Week, also notched a double-double effort with a match-high 34 assists and bringing in 10 digs.

Sophomore right side Alex Johnson sparked the UMiami defense with 14 digs as classmates Ryan Shaffer (12) and Taylor Hollins (11) also added solid defensive performances from the back row.

Miami gets back to the court Saturday, Nov. 12 when they travel west along I-40 to Winston-Salem, N.C. for a showdown with Wake Forest at 5 p.m. Live stats and video will be available at WakeForestSports.com.
