Romy Farah Named Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week
Jan. 22, 2008 Coral Gables, Fla (www.hurricanesports.com) – Senior Romy Farah has been named Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for January 14-21, 2008. Farah opened her 2008 season in convincing fashion at the FGCU/Johan Kriek Classic in Fort Myers, winning all four singles matches in straight sets at the No. 2 position and all three doubles matches at the No. 1 spot with teammate Laura Vallverdu. In singles play, Farah cruised to victories over Torrie Browning of No. 32 Wichita State (6-3, 6-2), Breanna Atkinson of Stetson (6-1, 6-1), Megan Zebroski of Dartmouth (6-4, 6-3) and Julie Blackmore of No. 52 Ohio State (6-4, 6-1). Teaming with Vallverdu at the No. 1 doubles spot, the duo won all three matches over the weekend with ease, beating FIU’s duo of Liset Brito and Priscilla Castillo, 8-5, UCF’s Elvira Serrot and Jennifer Carati, 8-2, and host FGCU’s pair of Maria Maggiorini and Maria Braniecka, 8-1, on the final day of the event. The 11th-ranked UM women’s tennis team finished the event with a 23-4 record in singles play and an 11-1 mark in doubles action. |
