Nov. 27, 2000

Providence, R.I. – Miami linebacker DAN MORGAN earned defensive honors, while Hurricane punt returner SANTANA MOSS captured Special Teams Player of the Week, the league announced Monday. Also, Pittsburgh running back KEVAN BARLOW has been named Offensive Player of the Week.

Morgan (Coral Springs, Fla.) captures defensive honors for the fourth time this year after the Hurricanes’ 52-6 win over Boston College. The senior linebacker finished with a game-high 13 tackles (nine solo), despite being sidelined for part of the first half with a toe injury. He added three tackles for loss and a quarterback sack, as UM held Boston College to its lowest point total of the season. The four weekly honors for Morgan ties the BIG EAST season record set by Miami’s Nate Webster last season.

Moss (Miami, Fla.) set several punt return records in the Hurricanes’ win over Boston College. The senior had four returns for 114 yards, a 28.5-yard average. Included in the total was an 85-yard punt return for a score in the third quarter. The return was his fourth for a touchdown this season, tying a NCAA and BIG EAST record. It was his sixth career returnfor a TD, a BIG EAST record and one short of the NCAA mark. Moss also set BIG EAST and UM records for season (655) and career (1,196) punt return yards. He finished the game with 235 all-purpose yards, scoring three touchdowns.

Barlow (Pittsburgh, Pa.) rushed for a career-high 272 yards in the Panthers’ 38-28 win over West Virginia. The senior running back scored four touchdowns, converting on runs of 56, 30, 24 and two yards. It was the second-highest rushing game in BIG EAST and Pittsburgh history, trailing Tony Dorsett (303 vs. Notre Dame, 1975) on the school chart and Miami’s Edgerrin James (299 vs. UCLA, 1998) on the conference list. Barlow finished the game with 8.2 yards per rush as he became the 13th player in Panther history and first since 1994 to rush for 1,000 yards in a season.
