FIRST QUARTER
Ethnic Sands 1st quarter reception of 30 yards is the longest of his career. His previous was 26 yards against Penn State…Ed Reed’s fumble recovery, caused by Chris Campbell, led to the game’s first touchdown one play later with Ken Dorsey hitting Andre Johnson for 40 yards, with 10:53 left in the 1st quarter…Johnson’s reception late in the quarter for 64 yards was a career-long…Najeh Davenport rushed for a 4-yard TD with 2:12 left in the first, his 11th rushing TD of his career…The Hurricanes have outscored opponents 27-0 in the first quarter during the first two games…Score: Miami leads 14-0

SECOND QUARTER
James Lewis intercepted this first pass of the second quarter…Todd Sievers missed a 34-yard field goal attempt…Jonathan Vilma caused and recovered a fumble…Dorsey’s three-yard touchdown pass to Jeremy Shockey with 8:36 left in the second quarter was the 40th of his career, tying Bernie Kosar for 6th on the all-time UM list for touchdowns… Kevin Beard’s 44-yard reception helped set up a 24-yard field goal by Todd SieversTodd Sievers capped an 8-play, 36-yard scoring drive with a 40-yard field goal… Score: Miami leads 27-0

THIRD QUARTER
Shockey’s career-long 56-yard catch led to a 3-yard run by Clinton Portis with 8:44 remaining in the quarter…Philip Buchanan scored on a 56-yard punt return, first of his career, third overall (scored the others via a fumble recovery and interception returned for a TD)…John Square recovered a fumble, caused by Markese Fitzgerald, and scored a 5-yard touchdown, the first of his career …Score: Miami leads 47-0

FOURTH QUARTER
Vince Wilfork recovered fumble…Howard Clark recovered fumble caused by Markese FitzgeraldFrank Gore, a freshman from Coral Gables, scored his first career touchdown on a 10-yard run… Jarrett Payton scored on a 5-yard run…Final Score: Miami wins 61-0.

OF NOTE
Miami has won 83 straight games when scoring 30 or more points…UM has had 8 punt returns for touchdowns over the last 26 games…The Hurricanes scored 5 different ways, pass, run, punt return, fumble recovery for TD, and field goal…UM scored at least 27 points off turnovers

The last UM shutout in a home opener was a 56-0 victory vs. Georgia Southern on Sept. 3, 1994…That win was UM’s NCAA record 58 game home winning streak… This is the fifth straight season UM has recorded 50 or more points vs. Rutgers, and sixth time in last seven seasons..

This marks the fifth regular-season game, dating back to last season, that the UM defense has allowed 7 points or less…This was the larges margin of victor dating back to 1954 vs. Fordham when the team scored 75 points…

Redshirt freshman Kyle Cobia has his first career carry for five yards…True freshmen Antrell Rolle and Sean Taylor saw their first action at cornerback and safety respectively. They had both previously played on special teams.

INDIVIDUAL STATISTICS:

KEN DORSEY… Second quarter TD pass to Jeremy Shockey was Dorsey’s 40th career touchdown pass tying him for sixth on the all-time list with Bernie Kosar, 1983-84…4,036 career-passing yards moves Dorsey to 10th on Miami’s all-time yardage list passing Scott Covington. Frank Costa (1991-94) is 9th with 4,256.

CLINTON PORTIS… Scored his third career rushing touchdown with a 3-yard run in the third quarter.

ED REED…Continued his campaign for the Jim Thorpe and Bronko Nagurski Awards with a first quarter fumble recovery that led to the game’s first touchdown.

DERRICK CRUDIP…his 25-yard run was the longest of his career.

NAJEH DAVENPORT…Scored in the first quarter from 4-yards out, his 11th rushing TD of his career.

ETHNIC SANDS…His first half performance of four catches for 75 yards is a career-high.

HURRICANES IN HOME/BIG EAST OPENERS – In 75 previous home openers, Miami has forged a 53-21-1 (.713) all-time record. Additionally, UM has won 14 of its last 15 home openers, including three straight. …In BIG EAST Conference openers, UM is 8-3 since 1991 and 6-3 since league play began in 1993. UM has also won its last two conference openers.

MIAMI VS. FIRST-YEAR COACHES – First-year Rutgers head coach Greg is the first first-year head coach UM has faced since Tommy Tate and McNeese State on Aug. 30, 2000. UM holds a four-game win streak against first-year head coaches. Overall, UM has won 27 of its last 28 games vs. teams under the helm of a first-year coach. Miami had its 23-game win streak vs. first-year coaches snapped at Pittsburgh Sept. 18, 1997, with Walt Harris.

NEXT UP: WASHINGTON – A large crowd along with a large media contingent is expected next Saturday for the 3:30 p.m. clash with the Washington Huskies at the Orange Bowl. ABC will televise the game nationally as the Hurricanes will try to avenge their only loss of the 2000 season, a 34-29 setback to the eventual 2001 Rose Bowl champions.

MIAMI BACK AT NO. 1 – It has been 3,193 days and 457 weeks since the Hurricanes last held the No. ranking in the nation. The last poll to have UM at No. 1 was on Dec. 6, 1992. UM’s highest regular season rank since the last time it held the No. 1 position was the No. 2, from Nov. 11 of 2000 through this past weekend.

INJURIES: Joaquin Gonzalez left the game in the first quarter with a right shoulder sprain and did not return…Willis McGahee sprained his right shoulder and did not return.
