Albir did not record a decision in 2004, but posted an impressive 2.25 ERA … pitched 12 innings over nine appearances … made seven of his nine appearances over the final month of the season as he stepped into Miami’s primary right-handed setup role … walked five and struck out 13 … averaged 9.8 strikeouts per nine innings … through the first seven appearances did not allow a run and just nine hits … pitched one inning allowing one hit while striking out two in a relief appearance vs. LaSalle on Feb. 28 … threw two shutout innings and struck out two vs. Illinois-Chicago on March 21 … added one shutout inning striking out two vs. North Carolina on May 14 … went 1.2 innings against Florida Atlantic on May 19 with one walk and one strikeout … struck out one batter in one-third of an inning against Long Beach State on May 29. 2004 NCAA Coral Gables Regional: Albir struck out two batters in two innings of work in Game 4 of the regional against Florida Atlantic. 2004 NCAA Coral Gables Super Regional: Albir saw relief duty in the Hurricanes 8-7 win over Florida on June 12, allowing four hits, a season-high three runs (all earned), one walk with two strikeouts in 1.2 innings … the three runs were the first and only he allowed all season. 2004 College World Series: Albir threw 1.1 innings of solid relief on June 21 against Cal State Fullerton in the CWS … the Titans managed only one hits as Albir struck out one.
