CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Following its 10-win campaign last year, the University of Miami soccer team is set to start its 2017 season Wednesday evening with an exhibition affair at UCF.
The Hurricanes and Knights will meet at 7 p.m., at UCF Soccer and Track Complex in Orlando, Fla.
This is the second consecutive year Miami is opening with an exhibition match at UCF. In 2016, the Hurricanes scored two goals in the final 25 minutes to post a 2-1 comeback victory.
The sides also squared off earlier this spring at Cobb Stadium, with Miami notching a pair of goals in the closing half-hour to earn a 2-2 tie.
Overall, fifth-year head coach Mary-Frances Monroe‘s team posted a 3-0-3 mark in spring play, outscoring opponents by a 10-goal margin, 13-3. It marked the second season year in a row Miami has gone undefeated in the spring.
The Hurricanes return 19 players, including seven starters, from a club that went 10-8-1 (5-5-0 ACC) in 2016. Miami made the ACC Championship and set a program record for conference victories.
UCF was 9-8-2 (4-4-1 AAC) last season and had its nine-year NCAA Championship streak snapped. It was the 16th straight winning season for the Knights, but the first time since 2000 they did not tally double-digit victories.

Miami’s matchup with UCF is the first of its two exhibition outings. The Hurricanes are set to host the Florida Tech Monday at 7 p.m.
