Toney Named Sporting News Preseason First-Team All-American
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami sophomore wide receiver Malachi Toney was named to The Sporting News 2026 Preseason All-America First Team, the publication announced Thursday.
Toney enters his second season with the Hurricanes after delivering one of the most electric campaigns in program history. The Miami native led the nation with a school-record 109 receptions and established another program single-season mark with 1,211 receiving yards. He added 10 touchdown catches while helping Miami advance to its first College Football Playoff appearance.
A dynamic weapon in the Hurricanes’ offense, Toney also rushed for 113 yards and one touchdown and completed four passes for 82 yards and two scores. He finished the year with 1,622 all-purpose yards and 13 total touchdowns.
Toney was named the ACC Rookie of the Year and ACC Offensive Rookie of the Year following his standout debut season. He also collected first-team All-ACC honors and was selected as the FWAA Offensive Freshman of the Year.
The latest recognition adds to a growing list of preseason honors for Toney, who was also named a Walter Camp Preseason First-Team All-American and earned a spot on the 2026 Maxwell Award preseason watch list.
Miami opens its 2026 season Sept. 4 at Stanford. Kickoff is set for 9 p.m. ET on ESPN.
