Moten, McCoy Named to Outland Trophy Watch List
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami defensive lineman Ahmad Moten Sr. and offensive lineman Matthew McCoy were named to the 2026 Outland Trophy Preseason Watch List, the Football Writers Association of America announced Tuesday.
Miami was one of 13 programs with multiple players selected and one of three ACC teams with two honorees.
Moten, the Fort Lauderdale, Fla., native was also named to the Bronko Nagurski Trophy Preseason Watch List earlier on Tuesday, which recognizes the national defensive player of the year. Moten started 14 games in 2025 and recorded 31 tackles, nine tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks. The redshirt senior has appeared in 38 games with 16 starts during his time with the Hurricanes, totaling 51 tackles, 12.5 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks.
McCoy returns as an anchor on Miami’s offensive line for 2026 as the Hurricanes averaged 405 yards and 30.9 points per game while totaling 6,480 yards and 63 touchdowns last season.
McCoy’s efforts on the offensive line helped the Miami running backs rush for 2,429 yards and 28 scores while allowing just 20 sacks across 16 games.
The Outland Trophy is presented annually to the nation’s top interior lineman on offense or defense. Offensive tackles, guards, centers and defensive tackles are eligible for the award.
The FWAA will announce the award’s semifinalists Nov. 18 before revealing three finalists Nov. 24. The winner will be announced during The Home Depot College Football Awards on ESPN in December.
Miami opens its 2026 season Sept. 4 at Stanford. Kickoff is set for 9 p.m. ET on ESPN.
