Miami’s rowing team made its first appearance at the NCAA Championships last weekend and the 13th-ranked Hurricanes made their presence felt.

All three of Miami’s competing boats — the First Varsity Eight, Second Varsity Eight, and Varsity Four — all set new program records in Gainesville, Georgia and established a new standard for the program.

Ultimately, the Hurricanes finished 13th in the 22-team field.

“For them to have the opportunity to be racing on the last day of the season, that’s one of the hardest things you can earn in this sport. So, it’s a feather in their cap that they got to do that and I’m very happy that they got this experience,” said Hurricanes head coach James Mulcahy. “Your first NCAAs is a lot of learning, but you also want to perform. I thought they did a great job of doing both those things. We learned a whole lot, but we also showed off some very strong performances.”
