Miami Falls at No. 22 Clemson
CLEMSON, S.C. – The University of Miami men’s basketball team suffered its first loss since Thanksgiving Day as it fell to No. 22 Clemson, 69-59, Saturday at Littlejohn Coliseum.
The loss snaps an 10-game winning streak and pushes Miami’s record to 15-3 on the year and 4-1 in ACC action.
Clemson (16-3, 6-0 ACC) opened the game on an 8-0 run before the Hurricanes cut the lead down to three, 15-12, with just over 12 minutes left. The Tigers went on a 9-2 run to extend their lead to double digits before taking a 35-26 advantage into the half.
Clemson led by as many as 17 midway through the second half prior the Hurricanes embarking on a 9-0 run over the next two minutes, sparked by a pair of Tre Donaldson layups and a Noam Dovrat 3-pointer. The Tigers pushed the lead back up to 14 with just under four minutes before Miami chipped away at the lead following a Tru Washington layup.
Shelton Henderson led the team in scoring with 22 points, marking the third-consecutive game the freshman has scored at least 17. Malik Reneau added 11 points as Dante Allen registered 10. Erenest Udeh Jr. hauled in a game-high 17 rebounds, one shy of his career high.
The Hurricanes return to action Tuesday as they host Florida State at 7 p.m. The game can be seen on ESPNU and heard locally on the airwaves on 560 AM WQAM.
