Hurricanes Fall Short in 3-2 Loss to Stanford

CORAL GABLES, FLA. – The University of Miami women’s soccer team was defeated 3-2 by Stanford on Sunday afternoon at Cobb Stadium.

With the win, Stanford extends its win streak to seven and holds an overall record of 13-1-1 and stands 6-0-1 in ACC play. The Canes sit at 6-8-2 overall and 0-7-1 in conference matchups.

The Hurricanes kept the No. 2 team in the ACC scoreless for the first 45 minutes of play. Miami’s Atlee Olofson had her first season start and played the entire 90 minutes, securing three saves in the first half and two in the second half.

The Cardinals’ first goal came off a penalty kick in the 61st minute from Andrea Kitahata. Just two minutes later, Shae Harvey added Stanford’s second goal to make the score 2-0. Stanford secured its third and final goal in the 78th minute by Kitahata, marking her second of the game and 10th of the season.

Brie Severns put Miami on the scoreboard for the first time since September 18, with a goal in the 65th minute of play. Then in the final seconds of play Stanford had an own goal in the 89th minute, tallying another point for Miami and closing out the matchup at 3-2.

The Canes final home game of the regular season is on Thursday evening against UNC. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. and the conference matchup will be streamed on ACCNX.
