Canali Garners Third Team All-ACC, All-Freshman Team Honors

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – After a sensational freshman campaign in which she scored a team-high nine goals throughout the year, University of Miami soccer player Giovana Canali has earned Third Team All-ACC and ACC All-Freshman Team honors, the conference announced Wednesday.

Canali is the first Miami soccer player to earn All-Conference recognition since 2018, and she is just the third freshman in program history to be named to an All-Conference team. Canali is also the fourth freshman in program history to earn ACC All-Freshman Team honors, and just the second freshman to be named to an All-Conference Team in addition to garnering All-Freshman Team recognition.

Canali’s debut campaign for the Hurricanes was nothing short of exceptional, as she completed the season ranked first on the team in goals (9), game-winning goals (2), shots (70), and shots on goal (36). Canali also ranked seventh in the conference in goals, and fourth in both shots and shots on goal.

Canali scored her first goal of the season in Miami’s second match of the campaign, as she found the back of the net off a corner kick against Florida Atlantic, helping the Canes earn a 1-1 draw on the road against the Owls.

Two matches later, she scored her second goal of the season, helping lead Miami to their first victory of the year, a 2-1 triumph over Missouri. She then proceeded to score the game-winning goal against FIU just three days later, as Miami secured a 1-0 victory over the CUSA Regular Season Champions. She was consequently named the ACC Offensive Player of the Week for her performances against Missouri and FIU.

In the Canes’ second ACC contest, Canali had her first multi-goal performance, finding the back of the net twice to help the Canes earn a 3-3 draw against SMU.

Canali had another multi-goal outing in a sensational performance at Cal, as she scored two goals on the road against the Golden Bears.

She scored her second game-winning goal of the season in a rematch against Florida Atlantic, finishing a tremendous strike in the second half to push Miami to a 1-0 victory over the Owls.

Canali recorded her ninth and final goal of the campaign in a road victory over Syracuse, scoring early in the match to set the tone in what would result in a 3-1 victory for the Canes.

Miami concluded the 2024 season last Thursday against Florida State, as the Canes will now turn their attention to the 2025 campaign.
