Rams Select Kinchens in Third Round of 2024 NFL Draft
CORAL GABLES, Fla. — University of Miami defensive back Kam Kinchens was selected with the 99th overall pick by the Los Angeles Rams Friday night in the third round of the 2024 National Football League Draft.
Kinchens’ selection marked the second straight year a Hurricane defensive back was selected in the top three rounds; cornerback Tyrique Stevenson was drafted by the Chicago Bears in the second round in 2023.
Over his standout career at Miami, Kinchens amassed 162 total tackles, 11 interceptions, five tackles for loss, 26 pass breakups and two forced fumbles. Kinchens delivered a breakout 2022 season when he was named an NCAA All-American by several outlets, starting 11 games and finishing with 59 tackles and six interceptions.
A two-time first-team All-ACC selection, Kinchens became the first Hurricane since the late Sean Taylor to record double digit interceptions over the course of his career. His 11 picks were tied for the eighth-most career interceptions in program history.
The selection of Kinchens in the third round extended Miami’s streak to 50 straight years with at least one draft pick, dating back to 1975, marking the fourth-longest active streak of any FBS program nationwide.
The 2024 NFL Draft continues Saturday at 12 p.m. ET with Rounds 4-7.
