Pierre-Webster, Malone Earn ACC Weekly Honors Following Hurricane Invitational
CORAL GABLES, Fla. — A pair of Hurricanes sprinters earned conference recognition this week after standout performances at the Hurricane Invitational.
Makenzy Pierre-Webster was named the ACC Women’s Track Athlete of the Week, while Ace Malone earned recognition as the ACC Rookie of the Week.
Graduate student Makenzy Pierre-Webster earns her first conference honors as a Hurricane after running a personal best time of 52.40 in the women’s 400m at last week’s Hurricane Invitational — her time currently ranks first in the ACC and second in the NCAA.
Ace Malone, a freshman from Castle Rock, Colorado, clocked 20.83 (+3.4) in the men’s 400m, placing sixth against elite competition at the Hurricane Invitational.
This is also Malone’s first weekly conference honors and the Hurricanes’ first ACC Rookie of the Week recipient since the award was created back in January.
Next up for the Hurricanes track and field team is the one-day Hurricane Collegiate Invitational on March 23. Events are to begin at 9 a.m. at Cobb Stadium with admission being free to the public.
