Women's Basketball Registers No. 23 Ranking in USA Today Coaches Poll

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s basketball team was recognized in the USA Today Coaches Poll Top 25 after being selected No. 23 as announced Tuesday, Dec. 12.

The Canes came in at No. 24 in the AP Top 25 poll a day ago, their first in-season ranking since the 2019-20 campaign. It’s also Miami’s first in-season USA Today Coaches Poll ranking since that same season. UM finished at No. 18 in the 2022-23 USA Today Coaches Poll.

Miami is 8-0 and stands as one of 18 unbeaten teams in all of NCAA Division I. The start is good for the second-best start in Coach Meier’s tenure, only short of the team’s 10-0 beginning to the 2015-16 season.

UM ranks first in the league in bench points per game (31.2), scoring defense (52.9) and three-point shooting percentage (38.2). The Hurricanes have been extremely balanced, with all active Hurricanes averaging at least 12 minutes per game. In each of the last two wins, a minimum of five Canes have posted double-digit scoring performances.

Miami goes to San Antonio, Texas, to take on No. 10/13 Baylor in the Hall of Fame Series game Saturday, Dec. 16 at 5 p.m. EST. Following the neutral site game, Miami returns to the Watsco Center for three games to round out the 2023 portion of the season.
