Dear Canes Community,

We are heading into the stretch run of our spring sports calendar with many teams gearing up for postseason play.

In Play

Our 16th-ranked baseball team is coming off a big series win at No. 21 Louisville this past weekend. The Canes are now 28-16 overall and 14-10 in the ACC, just one-half game behind Duke in the Coastal Division. We host Presbyterian for a three-game set at The Light starting Friday at 7 p.m. We hope to see you there!

Our women’s tennis team (15-7) is currently ranked No. 14 in the country and awaits word tonight on its NCAA Tournament draw. The Canes are currently in line to host the first two rounds in what would be their 27th straight appearance in the tournament. Our men’s tennis team (15-10) is seeking its fifth straight NCAA Tournament berth.

Our track and field squad wrapped up its regular season this weekend in Jacksonville and now begins preparations for the ACC Championships, which start May 11 in Raleigh, N.C. Our rowing team is also prepping for the ACC Championships in Raleigh, which begin May 12. And golfer Sara Byrne qualified for NCAA Regionals in Palm Beach Gardens, which start May 8. You can keep up with all our teams by signing up to receive our weekly Miami Athletics Report. Click here to sign up!

Football Notes

Three Hurricanes were selected in the 2023 NFL Draft over the weekend. Tyrique Stevenson was selected in the second round by the Chicago Bears, Will Mallory was a fifth-round selection by the Indianapolis Colts, and DJ Ivey was picked in the seventh round by the Cincinnati Bengals. Congratulations to Tyrique, Will and DJ! Our football program has now had a player selected in the NFL Draft for 49 consecutive years, marking the fourth-longest active streak of any FBS program nationwide.

We have seven home games at Hard Rock Stadium this fall, including visits from Clemson and Texas A&M. You can renew your season tickets by calling 1-800-GO-CANES or purchase season tickets by clicking here. We can’t wait to see you cheering on the Canes at Hard Rock all season long!

Awards Season

Last week we held a campus celebration for our men’s and women’s basketball teams to commemorate their historic March Madness runs. Thank you to all the students, faculty and staff who came out to Lakeside Patio to show their appreciation!

Our ninth annual Celebration of Women’s Athletics presented by adidas was a rousing success. We honored 11 incredible student-athletes and raised more than $700,000 in support of Miami women’s athletics. I want to thank everyone who attended and who continue to make the CWA one of our signature events each year.

Last night we debuted our Hurricane Honors Awards Show, handing out 21 awards to our student-athletes for excellence in athletics, academics and community service. It was rewarding to see our student-athletes from all sports gather together, share their experiences and celebrate their accomplishments.

The 53rd annual University of Sports Hall of Fame banquet will be held this Thursday, May 4, at Watsco Center. This year’s inductees are Kevin Brown (baseball), Lela Cannon (women’s golf), David Gil (baseball), Jim Larrañaga (men’s basketball), Aaron Moser (track and field), Doris Glenn Easterly-Richards (women’s diving), Vinny Scavo (athletic training), Todd Sievers (football), Willie Smith (football) and Riquna Williams (women’s basketball). NIL

In this new era of Name, Image & Likeness, NIL opportunities can help all Hurricane student-athletes maximize the value of their brand and learn valuable entrepreneurial skills during their time at Miami. NIL opportunities can also help you market your business.

You can connect directly with Hurricanes student-athletes for endorsements, promotions, and appearances. You can also support them by contributing to the Canes Connection collective, which builds valuable partnerships with local businesses and connects those businesses with our student-athletes. Our Canes Community remains stronger than ever thanks to your continued support. We hope to see you cheering us on throughout the month of May. Go Canes!
