MBB Moves to No. 19/20 in National Polls
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami men’s basketball team is in the top 25 of each major poll for the ninth consecutive week and in the top 20 for the sixth time in seven weeks, as announced Monday afternoon.
Miami (18-5, 9-4 ACC) jumped four spots in the Associated Press Top 25 Poll to take the No. 19 spot, while also moving up one position in the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll to claim the No. 20 position.
The Hurricanes went 2-0 last week, notching a 92-83 home win Tuesday night against Virginia Tech and following it when a 78-74 road triumph Saturday at then-No. 20/19 Clemson.
Head coach Jim Larrañaga’s team went from 146 points in the AP Poll all the way to 425, a 279-point increase. In the Coaches Poll, Miami increased its total from 97 to 192, good for a 95-point bump.
The Hurricanes are one of five ACC teams listed in the Coaches Poll, alongside ninth-ranked Virginia, No. 22 NC State, co-No. 24 Clemson and co-No. 24 Duke.
Miami is back on the hardwood Monday at 7 p.m. against RV/No. 24 Duke, live on ESPN from the Watsco Center in Coral Gables.
