Canes Close Indoor Regular Season at Clemson

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami track and field team closes out its indoor regular season this weekend at the Tiger Paw Invitational.

After jumping 41 spots in the USTFCCCA poll, the men’s squad enters the weekend ranked No. 15 in the country behind a trio of top-10 NCAA marks from Ayman Zahafi and Isaiah Holmes.

The duo earned ACC Performer of the Week honors for their performances at the Meyo Invitational last weekend. Zahafi ran the third-fastest and ACC leading 800m time of 1:47.80. to be tabbed ACC Co-Track Athlete of the Week. His time set a new school record after 16 years. Holmes, ACC Co-Field Performer of the Week, tallied the sixth farthest NCAA long jump mark this season of 7.90m, setting a new school record in the process. The graduate student notched a high jump of 2.19m for the seventh highest in the NCAA this year. His high jump broke the previous program record set by himself earlier this season at the Carolina Challenge.

On the women’s side, the trio of Jacious Sears, Alfreda Steele and Mercy Ntia-Obong swept the 60m a week ago. Sears led the way for the Canes while Steele placed second and Ntia-Obong was third.

This weekend’s action will take place Friday and Saturday. Friday’s events will begin at 11 a.m. with the men’s weight throw. Events are scheduled until 5:55 p.m. on Friday.

Action on Saturday begins at 10 a.m. with the men’s shot put and goes until 4 p.m.
