Hannestad, Martin Close Out M15 Naples Event

NAPLES, Fla. – University of Miami men’s tennis players Benjamin Hannestad and Dan Martin represented The U at the M15 Naples ITF event over the last few days.

Hannestad advanced to the second round of the singles main draw before falling in a tough three-set match to Ricardo Rodriguez of Venezuela, 7-6 (3), 6-4, 6-1.

Martin started his tournament with a pair of wins in the singles qualifying draw to earn a spot in the main draw. In the first round of the main draw, Martin went head-to-head with Antoine Cornut Chauvinc of France, but ultimately came up short, 6-0, 7-6 (3).

In doubles action, Hannestad played alongside Duarte Vale of Puerto Rico, earning a first round victory, 6-4, 3-6, 10-4 in the doubles main draw. The pair exited the tournament in the quarterfinals with a 4-6, 6-2, 10-5 loss to the duo from Switzerland.

The Canes return to action on Oct. 21 when they head to Gainesville, Fla., for the ITA Regional Championships.
