MBB to Compete in 2021 ESPN Events Invitational
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami men’s basketball team is set to play in Kissimmee, Fla., during the 2021-22 campaign when it takes part in the ESPN Events Invitational.
Formerly the Orlando Invitational, the tournament is in its 14th year and is held at HP Field House at ESPN Wide World of Sports, just outside Orlando, Fla. Miami is one off eight teams in the event, which is scheduled for Nov. 25-28, as announced Thursday afternoon.
The Hurricanes join Alabama, Belmont, Dayton, Drake, Iona, Kansas and North Texas in the field. Five of those programs competed in the 2021 NCAA Tournament, with four winning at least one game.
Miami, which previously played in this event during the 2016-17 season on its way to an NCAA Tournament berth, owns a 15-9 record during in-season tournaments under 10th-year head coach Jim Larrañaga. That includes winning the 2014 Charleston Classic and 2015 Puerto Rico Tip-Off, as well as reaching the finale of the 2018 Wooden Legacy.
