Arreaga Finishes Second At ACC Outdoor Championships

RALEIGH, N.C. – Kevin Arreaga earned a silver medal in the men’s hammer throw on the first day of the 2021 ACC Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

Arreaga’s throw of 66.98m gave the men’s side eight team points to begin the day.

Kevin Snyder reached his first conference finals in the men’s long jump and finished eighth overall with a personal-best mark of 7.32m. His finish gave the Canes one more point to total nine after the first day.

Both McKinly Brown and Ryler Gould advanced to Saturday’s 400m hurdles finals after their performances on Thursday. Brown cruised to win his heat with a time of 52.28 seconds, while Gould earned the final spot in the finals with a time of 53.06 seconds.

Debbie Ajagbe scored one point for the women’s side with her eighth-place finish in the women’s hammer throw with a mark of 59.49m. Michelle Atherley also finished eighth in the long jump at 6.08m.

After four events in the women’s heptathlon, Atherley is 35 points behind first place with 3,633 points. She began the day with a first-place time in the 100m hurdles at 13.06 seconds and a third-place finish in the high jump at 1.75m. Atherley jumped to second in the women’s shot put on her final throw at 12.52m and finished third in the 200m dash at 24.79 seconds.

Alfreda Steele ran the fastest qualifying 200m time at 23.04 to advance to Saturday’s final. Jacious Sears just missed the finals with her time of 23.82 seconds to finish ninth.
