The First of Many to Clemson
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Miami track and field will spend more than half the indoor season here in Clemson, S.C.
The Bob Pollock Meet scheduled for Jan. 29 and Jan. 30 will be the Canes first of three meets at the Tigers’ indoor track and will be the first time Miami sees ACC competition this season.
With 16 teams in competition, including the No. 21 Clemson women, No. 7 Florida State men and the men of Virginia Tech who are ranked No. 21 by the US Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
After eight freshmen made their debuts last week at Texas Tech, transfers Isaiah Holmes and Lauryn Harris will also dawn the orange and green for the first time on Friday. Jalen Gordon, Natalie Varela and Khamal Stewart-Baynes will also make their first appearances for Miami.
But for many Canes, it will be a meet and track that they are familiar with.
Senior hurdler Tiara McMinn, who makes her season-debut in the 60m hurdles on Friday, is excited for the opportunity to get back on the track after last season after making it to NCAAs.
“Clemson has a really fast track and we’ll be able to produce a lot of fast times, McMinn said. “I’m really excited to compete there and be able to get some times before ACCs.”
There’s also an added sense of comfort for senior thrower Debbie Ajagbe on returning to Clemson’s ring. With countless meets and experience under her belt, the idea of returning of to Clemson is an exciting experience.
“I’m not a freshman anymore, so I know what to expect and it adds an extra level of comfort going back there to compete again,” Ajagbe said.
29 Canes will be in action at the Bob Pollock Meet that will span over two days with live stats available here.
