Ashleigh Shim Named Volunteer Assistant Coach
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami head soccer coach Sarah Barnes announced Wednesday the hiring of Ashleigh Shim as the team’s volunteer assistant coach.
“Ashleigh will be a great addition to our program. She has high level playing experience at the professional and national team levels that will be an excellent resource to our staff and players,” Barnes said. “She’s worked hard to develop an excellent technical base and has built a business on her ability to help players develop skill. We’re excited for her to join us as we continue to build our program.”
Shim joins the Hurricanes a year removed from competing at the 2019 FIFA World Cup for her native country of Jamaica, the first Caribbean nation to ever qualify for a Women’s World Cup. Overall, the Kingston, Jamaica, native was called up 14 times to the national squad from 2015-19.
As a student-athlete, Shim opened her FIU career strong, starting 22 of 23 matches, while notching a co-team-high five goals and earning Sun Belt Conference Freshman of the Year accolades. In addition, she was named a Second-Team All-Sun Belt Conference member and All-SBC Tournament team member.
In her third season with the Panthers, Shim was named to both the Conference USA Second Team and All-Academic Team, while leading FIU with eight goals, 17 points and three game-winning tallies.
Overall, Shim closed out her illustrious Panthers’ career with 69 starts, 17 goals, 13 assists, 47 points and five match-winning strikes.
In 2016, Shim spent a season competing professionally for a German club, VfL Sindelfingen, making 11 appearances and registering six goals.
Away from the pitch, Shim spent time as a business owner at TRAINED2GO Soccer Academy.
Shim graduated from Florida International in the spring of 2015 with a bachelor’s degree in sports and fitness, along with a business minor.
