W. Tennis Meets No. 4 Florida State in First Home Dual Match
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Coming off a top-20 road win at Georgia Tech, the University of Miami women’s tennis team begins a four-match homestand Monday morning.
Miami (3-2, 1-0 ACC) will take on fourth-ranked Florida State at 11 a.m. in its first dual match of the year at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
The contest, which is Miami’s fourth against a top-20 foe, will be televised live on ACC Network Extra HERE, while live stats for the in-state showdown can be found HERE.
In a series that dates back to 1977, the Hurricanes are 35-7 all-time versus Florida State, including 15-1 on their home court. Miami has won 12 of the past 15 matchups, dating back to 2009, but dropped a 5-2 road decision in the most recent affair, Feb. 16, 2019.
The Hurricanes have a trio of players in the Oracle/ITA singles rankings, headlined by the reigning NCAA champion, senior Estela Perez-Somarriba, who is third overall. Sophomore Daevenia Achong places No. 85, while freshman Selma Cadar comes in at No. 104.
In doubles, Miami features one nationally-ranked pair, with Achong and Cadar teaming up to form the country’s No. 53 pair.
Florida State, which has not yet started ACC play, is 9-1 on the season with five top-20 victories. The Seminoles have one singles player in the rankings, as Nandini Das holds the No. 86 position.
In doubles, Victoria Allen checks in at both No. 15 and No. 16 on the list, with Petra Hule in the higher spot and with Emmanuelle Salas in the lower one.
After squaring off with the Seminoles, Miami returns to action Feb. 21 at noon against Virginia Tech at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
