UM Athletics Officially Dedicates Boich Family Scoreboard

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Miami Athletics officially dedicated the Boich Family Scoreboard at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center Saturday afternoon with a ceremony honoring former UM men’s tennis student-athlete and philanthropist Wayne M. Boich and his family, whose major gift commitment funded the state-of-the-art videoboard.

Boich, his wife Cynthia and their two children were joined by University of Miami President Dr. Julio Frenk, Associate Vice President of Strategic Philanthropy Naomi Nixon and both the men’s and women’s tennis teams, who thanked the family for their generosity with kind words, jerseys and a champagne toast to the new board.”I have been blessed in a lot of ways,” Wayne Boich said. “Growing up it was always instilled in me, ‘You want to do well in everything you do – athletics, business, be good to your family,’

“But also, if you are in a position to do good, you have to do that with equal passion. And being fortunate enough to be in a position now, where I could do good, it is not really a thank you to [my family], it is more of a gratitude to the University. It is the least we could do to help out.”The videoboard is a Daktronics board that spans 33.6 feet by 16.8 feet with an elite pixel pitch of 10mm. It is one of the largest high-resolution video displays at any collegiate tennis facility in the country, and the largest one installed by Daktronics.

“It’s a game changer for us. Not only has it changed our facility in such a short time, it has absolutely brought the place together,” UM men’s tennis head coach Aljosa Piric said. “It is one of the best facilities in the country right now. So, it is changing it from the ground up.

“I know [Miami women’s tennis head coach] Paige [Yaroshuk-Tews] will attest to this, it has changed our recruiting landscape. When we have recruits in town, visiting the videoboard is certainly a must now. We can now show videos that introduce the city, the campus, the programs and everything we have to offer. It resonates with the recruits.””It has truly changed the landscape of not only the Neil Schiff Tennis Center, but I would even say, this part of campus,” Yaroshuk-Tews said. “People are walking through campus and they are talking about our facility — how it has changed and how great it looks. People are coming here and just being absolutely wowed.”

The videoboard is the latest in a long line of updates to the Neil Schiff Tennis Center over the past several years. First, the entire tennis building was rebranded with imagery on the walls celebrating the programs’ rich histories, while an academic study area and television were added on the top floor. Then, prior to the start of the 2020 spring campaign, the courts were resurfaced, repainted and rebranded with new windscreens.”Most of all, what this videoboard does, is that it impacts the student-athletes who are sitting here,” Yaroshuk-Tews said. “It creates an atmosphere of passion and intensifies the competition.”

That passion can be seen on full display this spring, as both the men’s and women’s tennis teams will combine to host 21 dual matches in 2020.
