Trio of Hurricanes in National Rankings
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Three members of the University of Miami men’s tennis team were highlighted in the Oracle/ITA Division I National Preseason rankings, as announced Tuesday by the ITA.
Rising 19 spots since completing his sophomore campaign at the NCAA singles championship ranked No. 40, Adria Soriano Barrera enters the 2019-20 season ranked No. 21. A Second Team All-ACC pick, the Barcelona, Spain, native captured a team-high 21 singles victories in 2018-19, including six against ranked opponents.
Capping the 2018-19 campaign ranked No. 94, Bojan Jankulovski shot 43 spots up the leaderboard to open his junior campaign ranked No. 51.
Since joining the Hurricanes prior to the 2017-18 campaign, Jankulovski has won a team-high 47 matches over the past two seasons, including 20 as a sophomore.
Joining the junior duo in the national rankings for just the second time, sophomore Francisco Bastias sits in a tie with UNLV’s Alex Kobelt at No. 113.
A Third Team All-ACC honoree, Bastias secured 19 singles victories as a freshman and a co-team-high 21 doubles triumphs.
The Hurricanes, who advanced to the NCAA Tournament for a second straight year, posted a 17-11 overall record and a 7-5 mark in ACC play, the program’s best conference showing since 2011, begin fall competition Sept. 20-22, with the team split between the Farnsworth Ivy-Plus in Princeton, N.J., and the Gamecock Fall Invitational in Columbia, S.C.
