Eight Canes Named USTFCCCA All-Academic Team
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Eight Miami Hurricanes earned All-Academic team honors for the 2019 NCAA Division I Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field season, as announced by the U.S. Track &. Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
Sophomore Debbie Ajagbe, senior Carolyn Brown, freshman Selina Dantzler, redshirt junior Brittny Ellis, senior Samantha Gonzalez, sophomore Amuru Patterson and senior Anna Runia were named to the women’s team, while junior Raheem Chambers was named to the men’s.
To qualify for USTFCCCA All-Academic honors, each student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.25 and have finished the indoor regular season ranked in the nation’s top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 in a relay on the list provided by TFRRS.org, or participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds) of the outdoor season.
For the second straight season, Miami’s women’s team was one of 366 teams to be honored by the USTFCCCA for their academics, which included 227 women’s teams compared to 139 men’s programs. The women boast a team GPA of 3.29 to earn the award.
