Four Canes Set Personal Bests at Tom Jones Memorial

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Four Canes of the Miami track and field program set personal-best marks in their specialized events on Friday night at the Tom Jones Memorial Meet. 
 

Senior Zakiya Rashid started the day off with a second-place finish in the women’s discus with a mark of 53.23m, while sophomore Debbie Ajagbe finished third with her mark of 52.47m. Freshman Hannah-Sophia Hall continues to improve as she set Miami’s first personal-best mark of the day with her throw of 48.80m.
 

Sophomore Hasani Knight had himself a night in the men’s long jump, as the Virginia Beach, Va., native set a collegiate best mark at 7.30m to advance to the finals. Knight’s first attempt in the finals improved to 7.34m, good for a sixth-place finish overall and third-best collegiate mark. 
 

On the track, sophomore Amuru Patterson improved her 200m time, finishing 11th with a time of 23.53 seconds. Sophomore Symone Mason finished with a time of 23.92, followed by sophomore Tiara McMinn at 24.20 and sophomore Isabella Gentil at 25.73. 
 

Miami native Kayla Johnson was the lone Cane to compete in the women’s 800m and finished second with a season-best time of 2:04.43. Freshman Sam Fleischman was the final Cane to set a personal-best time on the Percy Beard Track Complex, finishing with a time of 16:12.84 in the men’s 5000m run to close out the first day of the meet. 
 

The Canes close out the final day of the regular season Saturday at 10 a.m., beginning with the women’s hammer throw. Miami will conclude the meet, like every other meet this season, with the men’s 4x400m relay scheduled for 4:50 p.m.
