Hof Inks with Phoenix Mercury
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Senior Emese Hof of the University of Miami women’s basketball team has signed a free agent contract with the WNBA’s Phoenix Mercury.
A 6-foot-3 forward/center, Hof will head to Phoenix’s training camp, set to begin May 5, to compete for a spot on the team’s 2019 roster.
“I’m really excited, but not surprised, that Emese has been invited to a WNBA camp,” Miami head coach Katie Meier said. “Phoenix is a terrific organization; they’re well-coached and they evaluate talent as well as anyone in the league. I’ve always felt that Emese is a next-level player and I’m really confident she’ll make quite an impact.”
Hof is the fourth Hurricane to sign with a WNBA team since 2017, joining Keyona Hayes (Minnesota Lynx), Adrienne Motley (Indiana Fever) and Jessica Thomas (San Antonio Stars).
In total, Hof is the 12th player in program history to ink a WNBA contract, including the eighth in Meier’s tenure.
A native of Utrecht, Netherlands, Hof ended her career as Miami’s all-time field goal percentage leader with a 54.9 clip. She also placed second in blocked shots (182), tied for ninth in games played (127), No. 10 in rebounding (748) and No. 17 in scoring (1,229).
Hof earned First Team All-ACC, All-ACC Defensive Team, ACC Most Improved Player and WBCA Coaches’ All-America Team Honorable Mention accolades in 2018-19.
The lone four-time All-ACC Academic Team pick in program history, Hof averaged 14.2 points and 8.3 rebounds per game as a senior, while setting a program single-season record with a 58.6 percent mark from the field.
