Canes Set Personal-Best Times at Florida Relays

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Anne den Otter and Simone Vreeland of the University of Miami track and field program started the 2019 Pepsi Florida Relays recording personal-best times in the women’s 5000m. 
 
The pair of distance runners competed in the final women’s track event of Day 1 at the Relays and put together impressive performances. Veteran and senior leader den Otter, boasted a time of 17:20.22, shedding more than 24 seconds off her former best time. 
 
The West Lawn, Pa., native put together a top-20 performance in a field of 44 and moved into fifth on Miami’s all-time list, with her time. It’s den Otter’s second time cracking the top five, previously recording the program’s third-fastest time in the 1500m, a time she set in 2017. 
 
Vreeland also registered a standout performance, finishing with a time of 17:42.80. Like den Otter, the sophomore recorded a personal-best time and bested her former PR by more than 20 seconds. 
 
The Canes will return to action tomorrow with a full slate of events beginning with Hannah-Sophia Hall in the discus throw at 12:30 p.m. The women’s 4×400 relay will conclude Day 2 scheduled for 5:40 p.m.
