Men’s Tennis Continues to Rise in the ITA Poll
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – A week removed from cracking the top 25 for the first time since 2011, the University of Miami men’s tennis team jumped up one more spot to No. 22 on the Oracle/ITA national rankings list, as announced Tuesday afternoon by the ITA.
In the first of a pair of road matches, Miami (15-5, 6-1 ACC) extended its winning streak to seven matches following a comeback in Durham, N.C.
Battling Duke at the Ambler Tennis Stadium, Miami stormed back from a 3-0 deficit, earning a trio of straight-set victories from sophomore Bojan Jankulovski and freshmen Franco Aubone and Francisco Bastias to turn all eyes to a top-75 showdown taking place on court 1.
Facing No. 75 Nick Stachowiak, No. 27 Adria Soriano Barrera collected a 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (7-3) triumph to secure the team victory.
On Saturday, the Hurricanes came up short against No. 11 North Carolina, 4-1.
Canes are one of eight ACC teams in the rankings this week, including third-ranked Wake Forest, fifth-ranked Virginia, No. 11 North Carolina, No. 16 Notre Dame, No. 23 NC State, No. 26 Florida State and No. 49 Georgia Tech.
Miami will return to action on Friday at 4 p.m. in Louisville, Ky., when it wraps up a three-match road stretch against Louisville.
