Soriano Barrera Climbs Eight Spots to No. 13

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – A pair of University of Miami men’s tennis student-athletes – Adria Soriano Barrera and Bojan Jankulovski – are listed in the singles national rankings, as Oracle and the Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced the first top 125 of the spring for Division I men on Wednesday.

Soriano Barrera, a sophomore from Barcelona, Spain, ascended eight spots from the post-fall rankings, checking in at No. 13. He ranks second among ACC student-athletes, as Wake Forest’s Petros Chrysochos maintains the top position in the national polls. The sophomore’s ranking is the highest for a Miami men’s tennis student-athlete since Daniel Vallverdu was also ranked 13th in the national polls on April 28, 2009.

Soriano opened the spring season strong, competing in the Miami Spring Invite. Battling then-fourth-ranked Christian Sigsgaard, the sophomore secured a three-set thriller, 7-6 (7-2), 4-6, 7-6 (7-3). Overall, Soriano Barrera has opened the spring with a 5-2 mark, improving his sophomore campaign singles record to 12-6.

Jankulovski sits at No. 58 in the polls and ranks 13th among ACC student-athletes, after opening the spring season with a 5-3 mark, improving to 12-6 overall during his sophomore campaign.

The Skopje, Macedonia, native has picked up a quintet of straight-set victories, all at the No. 2 position, while coming up short against eighth-ranked Texas’ Yuya Ito, who rose four spots to No. 14, twice and third-ranked Mississippi State’s Giovanni Oradini, who jumped to No. 66 in Wednesday’s poll.

Up next, the Hurricanes travel to Iowa City, Iowa, to battle Iowa on Friday at 4 p.m. ET, before facing Utah on a neutral court on Saturday at Noon ET.
