Swimming Wraps Up Weekend at Bruno Invite
PROVIDENCE, R.I. –– The University of Miami women’s swimming team wrapped up its trip to the Bruno Invite on Sunday afternoon at the Katherine Moran Coleman Aquatics Center.
Headlined by the third individual victory of the weekend for freshman Zorry Mason, the Hurricanes – competing without their diving contingent – finished with 467 points on the Brown University campus.
Sophomore Alaina Skellett opened the final day of competition with the second-best time in the 200-yard backstroke, finishing the event in 1:58.17 – just behind first-place Stephanie Nelson (1:57.88) of Princeton. Senior Roxanne Yu, who took fifth in the morning’s preliminaries of the 200 back, finished the night’s final round in eighth (2:01.47).
Junior Manon Viguier took sixth in the 100-yard freestyle (50.32) before Mason came through once again for Miami. The Louisville, Ky., native continued her sparkling meet with the top time in the 200-yard breaststroke, finishing the event in 2:13.53 – nearly two seconds faster than Mackenzie Stumpf of Dartmouth (2:15.47).
Junior Claire McGinnis finished the 1,650-yard freestyle in seventh (17:41.61) while freshman Emily Weissman (17:22.55) was tenth.
Miami’s top entry in the 400-yard freestyle relay, comprised of Mason, sophomore Carmen San Nicolas Martinez, Viguier and sophomore Sydney Knapp – closed the meet with a third-place time of 3:22.64.
Freshman Maddie Lauther (2:06.58) and sophomore Chandler Sensibaugh (2:07.22) both competed in the 200-yard butterfly.
