In the Pool with Manon Viguier
“In The Pool” is a series highlighting the University of Miami swimming & diving student-athletes. Next up is one of Miami’s junior standouts, Manon Viguier.
My hometown is Bordeaux, France, where I grew up.
I came to Miami to have the opportunity to swim and study at the same time. Also, because the weather is nice.
The ACC Swimming & Diving Championships are the most exciting meet of the year.
My favorite quote right now is, “be patient, sometimes you have to go through the worst to get the best.”
My goal this season is to qualify for NCAA’s, for our team to get in the top eight at ACC’s, and maybe to make it onto the French National team.
The best part of Miami is my team and my teammates.
My inspiration is my teammates. They are strong, and they are my motivation
My favorite sport to watch is swimming … obviously, and track.
My team is the best team on earth. They are strong women, passionate women, and I just love them.
My coach is Andy Kershaw. He is one of the best coaches I have ever had. He is very passionate about his job. He is like a second dad to me. He’s not just a coach that tells you to do this or that, he gets into your personal interests, too, and he listens to you. It’s not just about swimming, but it’s also about personal life and he can understand that.
Family, I miss them a lot. I miss my mom, my dad, my brother. But I am excited because my brother is coming here in January for a few months.
I will never forget our 400 free relay at ACC’s last year (spring 2018), because it was just so fun, we had the whole team cheering for us, and we were just having fun and dancing behind the blocks.
People would be surprised to know I speak four languages fluently: French, English, German, and Spanish.
The U is the best school. Go Canes!
