Perez-Somarriba Set for Riviera/ITA All-American Championships
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Junior Estela Perez-Somarriba of the University of Miami women’s tennis team will open play Thursday at the prestigious Riviera/ITA Women’s All-American Championships.
Third-ranked and second-seeded Perez-Somarriba’s will take on No. 103 Katarina Stresnakova of Oklahoma State at 4:30 p.m. ET at the Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif. Stresnakova is 6-0 already in the tournament and is the lone player to advance through both the pre-qualifying and qualifying draws.
The victor will face either No. 12 Kelly Chen of Duke or No. 33 Giuliana Pairone of Michigan Friday in the second round, while the loser heads to the back draw.
Tournament pre-qualifying (Sept. 29-30) and qualifying (Oct. 2-3) filled the remaining main draw (Oct. 4-7) spots alongside the 23 initial selections, including Perez-Somarriba. Fourteen of the top 16 players in the ITA national rankings are in the field.
