Templeton Named a Senior CLASS Candidate

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Redshirt senior setter Haley Templeton of the University of Miami volleyball team has been named as one of the 30 candidates for the 2018 Senior CLASS Award®.

To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.

An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.

Templeton triple majored in the spring of 2018 in finance, economics and marketing and is currently an International Business graduate student. The setter has earned All-ACC Academic honors twice in her career, most recently in 2017 when she graduated with a 3.286 GPA. The Alpharetta, Ga., native helped the Canes earn an AVCA Team Academic Award for the 2017 season.

Templeton’s drive to succeed both on the court and in the classroom is translated by her success in the ACC and also her ability to manage her time with a busy class load in her Master’s program.

Templeton surpassed her 4,000th career assist and is 15th in the nation with 4,047 assists for the Canes and sits third in Miami history, just 888 behind Jill Robinson in second.

Her accomplishments on the court have been awarded by numerous accolades over her five-year career with Miami, including being named to the Preseason All-ACC team for the fourth consecutive season.

She was named the ACC Freshman of the Year, earned All-ACC Second Team honors in 2014 and 2015, including AVCA All-East Coast Region Honorable Mention and was named to the All-ACC First Team, AVCA All-East Coast Region Team and AVCA All-American Honorable Mention in 2017.

The 30 candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists midway through the regular season, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one candidate who best exemplifies excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition. The Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced during the 2018 NCAA Division I Women’s Volleyball Championship in December.
