Shimamoto and Aycart Punch Ticket to Bedford Cup Finals
ORLANDO, Fla. – The University of Miami men’s tennis team battled on the second day of the Bedford Cup at the UCF Collegiate Tennis Center at the USTA National Campus.
Playing in the semifinals of the Flight 2 doubles draw, sophomore’s Tatsuki Shimamoto and Pablo Aycart-Joya bested Bethune Cookman’s Phillip Lynch and Jose Plazas, 8-7, to advance through to the finals.
The duo will face the draws No. 1 overall seed, Stetson’s Louis Gorregues and Dennis Moses, with first serve scheduled for 8:30 a.m.
In singles, sophomore William Grattan-Smith came up short against FAU’s Jason Legall, 4-6, 4-6, while freshman Kaya Gore fell to UCF’s Manoel Alencar, 6-7, 2-6.
Also competing in the singles consolation draw, Shimamoto dropped his match against UNF’s Dominik Barton, 2-6, 3-6, while Aycart lost to Frederico Nani of North Florida, 3-6, 6-7 (2-7).

All players are guaranteed at least three singles and two doubles matches, with doubles action set to kick off each day at 8:30 a.m.
