Three Canes Set to Compete at IAAF World U20 Championships

CORAL GABLES, Fla.– Three members of the University of Miami track and field program are set to compete at the IAAF World U20 Championships this week. 
 
Symone Mason and two incoming freshmen, Molly Caudery and Selina Dantzler, will represent their countries in their respective events beginning Tuesday at Ratina Stadium inTampere, Finland. The three Canes will take part in the third-largest U20 Championship, as 1,466 athletes get set to compete against the top junior track and field athletes in the world. Fans can follow the meet via live results here or on Twitter.  
 
Caudery, who will represent Great Britain this week, will be the first Cane in action on Tuesday in the qualifying round of women’s pole vault set for 9:15 a.m. (ET).   Caudery will look to advance to the final, scheduled for Thursday at 11:20 a.m. Caudery is currently ranked No. 1 in the U20 women’s pole vault with a personal best 4.53m mark. Earlier in the year, Caudery finished first in the women’s pole vault at the National Indoor Championships in Birmingham, Great Britain, with a mark of 4.25m and finished second at the 2017 European Championships in Italy with a mark of 4.35m. 
 
Mason will hit the track after Caudery at 9:50 a.m., in the women’s 400m first round. Mason finished second in the 400m final at the 2018 USATF Junior Outdoor Championships to earn her spot on Team USA. The semifinals are set for Wednesday at 11:25 a.m., with the final planned for a 1:10 p.m. start on Thursday. Mason concluded her freshman campaign with the Canes earning Second Team All-America honors as a member of Miami’s 4x400m relay and was named the ACC Women’s Track MVP at the 2018 ACC Outdoor Championships after winning gold medals in the 200m, 400m, 4x100m, and 4x400m. 
 
Dantzler’s U20 Championship competition will start Wednesday morning when she represents Germany in the qualifying round of the women’s shot put. The event final is scheduled for 10:19 a.m. that day. Dantzler won gold in the shot put at the 2017 IAAF World U18 Championships and was the 2017 German U18 Champion in the shot put and discus. Dantzler has had major success in her native country finishing second in the shot put at the 2017 Indoor German Championships and third in discus at the same meet.
