WBB Adds WVU Transfer Destiny Harden
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami head women’s basketball coach Katie Meier announced Wednesday the signing of Destiny Harden, a transfer from West Virginia.
A 6-foot forward, Harden will have three years of eligibility left at Miami after sitting out the 2018-19 season in accordance with NCAA transfer rules.
“Destiny is the perfect addition to our squad. She is aggressive on the court at both ends and plays with such a high motor,” Meier said. “Her versatility allows her to swing through multiple positions in our system, which helps us find mismatches and makes her a very threatening player.”
Harden played in 35 of 37 games for West Virginia in 2017-18, aiding the veteran-laden Mountaineers to a 25-12 record and a spot in the WNIT semifinals.
A Chicago native, Harden opened her college career by making eight of nine shots in the first three contests of the year, averaging 7.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.7 blocks during that stretch.
Harden also closed the campaign strong, shooting a stellar 50 percent over West Virginia’s five WNIT games. She made a season-best four field goals in each of the first two outings of the tournament.
On the season as a whole, Harden averaged 2.5 points in 8.2 minutes per game, shooting 44.3 percent from the floor.
A McDonald’s All-American Game nominee coming out of Morgan Park (Ill.) High School in 2017, Harden was an Associated Press 3A First Team All-State pick as both a junior and senior.
Harden was a Chicago Tribune Second Team All-State selection after her final season, during which she averaged 18.0 points, 8.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game.
ProspectsNation.com listed Harden as a four-star recruit, while espnW HoopGurlz ranked her as the No. 19 wing prospect in her class and a three-star prospect.
Harden is the second Big 12 transfer who will be on Miami’s roster in 2018-19, along with former Baylor standout Beatrice Mompremier, who sat out last season.
