M. Tennis, Langmo/Soriano Place Fourth in Region
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – For the first time since 2013, the University of Miami men’s tennis team earned a top-four spot in the final ITA Southeast Region rankings, as announced Thursday.
Following a 15-13 (4-8 ACC) campaign that included a first-round win in its first NCAA Team Championship appearance since 2011, Miami checked in at fourth in the regional rankings.
The Hurricanes, who end the year at No. 42 in the nation and posted a pair of top-25 victories, also finished fourth in 2011.
In doubles, freshman Adria Soriano and senior Christian Langmo ranked fourth on the list. It is the highest mark by a Miami duo since Christian Blocker and David Simon placed fifth in 2010.
Soriano and Langmo became the first Hurricane pair to compete in the NCAA Doubles Championship since 2008 and advanced to the second round. The teammates finished No. 29 nationally and peaked at No. 18, the first top-20 mark by a Miami duo since 2009.
Additionally, both Soriano and Langmo garnered spots in the final ITA Southeast Region singles rankings, coming in at No. 13 and No. 16, respectively. Miami last had two singles players in the year-end regional rankings in 2016, when Piotr Lomacki placed ninth and Langmo held the No. 13 position.
Soriano ended the campaign at No. 77 in the country, the best mark by a Miami freshman since 2002 and the first year-end ranking by a Hurricane rookie since 2006. A Second Team All-ACC pick, Soriano went 13-8 in dual matches, including notching a 9-5 mark at the No. 2 spot.
Langmo concluded his final collegiate campaign with a 16-8 record in dual match play, tallying a stellar 11-6 ledger at the top position. The Third Team All-ACC selection registered a team-best four singles wins over ranked foes during the spring campaign.
