Men's Tennis Ranked No. 40 Ahead of NCAA Team Championship
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami men’s tennis team will go into the NCAA Team Championship ranked No. 40 in the nation, as announced by the Oracle/ITA Thursday.
The Hurricanes (14-12) will go into their first appearance at the national stage since 2011 with a pair of ranked singles players in No. 77 Adria Soriano and No. 125 Christian Langmo.
Soriano is ranked for ffifth straight week, while Langmo, a senior, returns to the rankings after picked up Miami’s first postseason point last week, downing NC State’s Tadas Babelis, 6-3, 7-6 (7-5), in the ACC Championship.
Langmo and Soriano are ranked in doubles as well, checking in at No. 30. The duo, which earned a bid to the NCAA Doubles Championship in Winston-Salem, N.C., starting May 24, holds a 4-0 record against ranked opposition, including three top-20 wins and a pair of top-15 victories.
For third straight week, the ACC is represented by 10 teams in the rankings, half of them in the top 25. Top-ranked Wake Forest, which defended its conference title in Cary, N.C., is followed by No. 6 North Carolina, No. 11 Florida State, No. 24 NC State and No. 25 Notre Dame. Duke holds a top-30 position by checking in at No. 29, while Virginia Tech follows up at No. 35. No. 41 Virginia and No. 47 Louisville conclude the conference representation in the 50-team rankings.
Miami’s season continues next weekend in Gainesville, Fla., when it takes on North Florida May 12 in the opening round of the NCAA Championship.
