Kevin Arreaga Named ACC Performer of the Week
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami’s Kevin Arreaga was named ACC Men’s Outdoor Field Performer of the Week, as announced by the conference office Tuesday.
Arreaga’s debut outdoor season continues to be filled with record-setting marks. The freshman broke the school record in the men’s hammer for the second consecutive week, posting a personal-best throw of 69.83m to win the event at the Power 5 Trailblazer Challenge.
“I feel really good after today’s competition,” Arreaga said on Friday. “I am still looking to really find myself in competition, but my marks keep improving. I am really happy with how I am progressing because that shows I am on the right path. Once I get where I want to be in competition, then I know I will get the marks I am looking to attain.”
Arreaga had four throws that measured at least 65 meters, with three surpassing the 68-meter mark. A native of Spain, Arreaga is ranked fifth in the NCAA in the men’s hammer and sits second in the ACC in the event.
This is the first ACC weekly award of Arreaga’s career. He is the fourth Hurricane to earn an ACC Performer of the Week honor this year, joining freshman Hasani Knight, junior Michelle Atherley and freshman Kayla Johnson.
Arreaga and the Hurricanes will travel to Gainesville, Fla., to compete at the Florida Relays from March 29-31. To view the complete Miami Track and Field schedule for the 2018 season, click here.
