Layland Named NCAA Honorable Mention All-America
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Senior Wally Layland started the final diving meet of her career in spectacular fashion Wednesday night, earning Honorable Mention All-America recognition at the 2018 NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships.
Layland, who entered the meet at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion having earned the distinction two times in her career, managed the feat once again Wednesday at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion.
Layland took 15th in preliminaries with a score of 286.90 and finished her final in seventh place to capture her third All-America recognition on the Ohio State campus.
“Going into my last NCAAs, my goal was to get another All-America title as a Hurricane, so it feels good to have reached that goal on the first day,” Layland said. “I couldn’t have done it without my amazing coaches and teammates by my side.”
The Orlando native scored 287.90 points in her final round.
Layland and teammate Carolyn Chaney will compete in the 3-meter on Thursday at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion.
