SAACthlete of the Week – David Dinsmore
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami diver David Dinsmore is an active member in the Hurricanes’ Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. See how Miami SAAC has helped this Hurricane redshirt sophomore prepare for life after graduation in this week’s SAACthlete of the Week.
Why did you get involved with SAAC?
“A few of my teammates were involved in SAAC and I was curious what it was all about, so I went to my first meeting and loved the atmosphere and how everyone wanted to make a difference in the community.”
What is your role as the Vice President?
“To help the president, and to communicate with everyone to make sure everyone is where they need to be.”
How has it been working with the E-board this year?
“It’s been great, we have a great group of people and we get a lot of things accomplished when we work together.”
What is your favorite memory about SAAC (community service, an event, etc.)?
“Writing Pen Pal letters has been an amazing experience to be able to create friendships with the kids in the community.”
What has been your favorite moment in your sport so far as a Hurricane?
“Winning my NCAA title, it was amazing being able to represent our university and to continue on the legacy of our diving program.”
What skills have you gained from being in SAAC or through the various development events?
“I have communication skills and how to handle money by going to the financial literacy events.”
How do you think your team has benefitted from having a SAAC?
“Our swim and dive team goes to these volunteering events and has a great time helping out the community as a team.”
What is a fun fact about yourself?
“I play the cello.”
Tell us a bit about your experiences competing for your country? What is that like? What has been your favorite moment so far?
“It’s incredible being able to represent the USA. Having the privilege to compete with the best divers in the world, while representing the USA is an amazing honor. My favorite memory has to be my first Junior World Championships in 2012.”
What is a big goal that you have set for the future?
“To become an Olympian.”
