The Class of 2017:

Michael Irvin

A Freshman All-American in 1985 and second-team All-American in 1987, Michael Irvin is one of the most decorated wide receivers in Hurricane history. At Miami, Irvin rewrote the then-UM record books for receivers with 26 touchdowns, 2,423 yards and 143 passes caught. After helping The U win the 1987 National Championship, Michael was drafted in the first round by Dallas in 1988. He was named to five Pro Bowls and helped the Cowboys win three Super Bowls. Irvin was inducted into the University of Miami Sports Hall of Fame in 2000, and enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2007.

Ray Lewis

A first-team All-American in 1995, Ray Lewis compiled one of the most dominant careers ever by a linebacker at The U. Lewis registered 160 total tackles in 1995 and 152 in 1994, earning All-BIG EAST recognition both seasons. Ray was drafted in the first round by Baltimore in 1996 and played all 17 of his professional seasons with the Ravens. He is a two-time Super Bowl champion, a 13-time Pro Bowler, was named NFL Defensive Player of the Year 2000 and 2003, and recorded over 2,000 career tackles. Lewis was inducted into the University of Miami Sports Hall of Fame in 2006.

Ed Reed

Ed Reed was a consensus All-American his final two years at Miami, 2000 and 2001, helping The U win its fifth National Championship in 2001. Reed was named All-BIG EAST two times and still holds UM career interception records with 21 picks, 389 return yards and four pick-six TDs. Chosen as Baltimore’s first pick in the 2002 draft, Ed helped the Ravens win the 2012 season Super Bowl, was selected to nine Pro Bowls and he was named the NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 2004. He was inducted into the University of Miami Sports Hall of Fame in 2012.

Warren Sapp

A consensus All-American and the first Hurricane to win the Lombardi Award, Warren Sapp led a 1994 Miami defense that ranked first in the NCAA in total defense and scoring defense, sweeping BIG EAST and national Defensive Player of the Year awards. Sapp was selected first by Tampa Bay in the 1995 draft, was named to seven Pro Bowls and as NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 1999, helping Tampa win the Super Bowl for 2002. Warren was inducted into the University of Miami Sports Hall of Fame in 2005, and enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2013.

Sean Taylor

A Miami Hurricanes legend who passed away in 2007, Sean Taylor led the nation in interceptions in 2003, setting a Miami record by returning three of those picks for scores. Taylor was a consensus All-American and BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year in 2003. Sean ranks fifth at Miami in career interceptions (14) and second in interception return yards (306), and helped UM win the 2001 National Championship. He was the Washington Redskins’ first pick in the 2004 draft and made two Pro Bowls before his tragic passing. Taylor was inducted into the University of Miami Sports Hall of Fame in 2015.
