Four Canes Shine at European U23 Championships

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Four members of the University of Miami track and field program represented their native countries at the 2017 European U23 Championships in Bydgoszcz, Poland.

Anna Runia, Gian Piero Ragonesi, Andreas Christodoulou and Kevin Arreaga were among the competitors in action from July 13-16 at Zdzislaw Krzyszkowiak Stadium.

Runia represented the Netherlands in the women’s 400m hurdles final. The 2017 ACC champion in the event, Runia finished eighth in the final at the U23 Championships with a time of 59.53 seconds. The rising junior posted a time of 57.44 seconds in the semifinals and 58.80 seconds in the qualifying rounds.

Ragonesi competed in two events, representing Italy in the men’s discus and shot put. The redshirt junior finished seventh in the discus with a throw of 56.86m and was 12th in the shot put with a mark of 18.28m.

Christodoulou represented Cyprus in the men’s decathlon, finishing 19th overall with a score of 5,633 points. A rising junior, Christodoulou was the 2016 ACC champion in the men’s decathlon.

A native of Spain, Arreaga finished 18th overall in the men’s hammer throw with a mark of 63.91m.
