Geldof Added to Belgian Senior National Team
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami women’s basketball player Serena-Lynn Geldof is set to compete for the Belgian Senior National Team at the upcoming FIBA EuroBasket Women 2017.
A rising sophomore, Geldof was added to the team’s roster Monday, four days prior to the prestigious tournament.
Geldof, a 6-foot-6-inch center, is the youngest member of Belgium’s 12-player roster for the event, which serves as the European championship.
Held in Prague, the tournament takes place June 16-25 and features the top 16 women’s basketball teams in Europe.
Belgium is one of the four teams in Group D, joining Latvia, Montenegro and Russia. The team will play its first game June 16 against Montenegro, then take on Russia the next day and follow that by rounding out pool play June 19 versus Latvia.
Geldof is set to be third Hurricane to play with her homeland’s senior national team in the past year, joining Dutch rising juniors Laura Cornelius and Emese Hof.
