Lomacki Named Second Team All-ACC
GREENSBORO, N.C. – University of Miami sophomore Piotr Lomacki has been selected for the 2017 Men’s Tennis All-Atlantic Coast Conference Team, the league announced Thursday.
Lomacki was one of nine student-athletes from the conference named to the second team, and honored as one of 27 total student-athletes across three teams, by 13 of the league’s head coaches. This was the second all-conference second team selection of his three-year career with the Hurricanes.
The junior opened the spring season ranked No. 86 in ITA singles and jumped to No. 64 at the start of the ACC Championships.
Lomacki earned a quintet of victories against fellow ranked opponents. In non-conference play, the junior defeated then-No. 51 Jack Findel-Hawkins of North Florida, 6-1, 6-1, before taking down Minnesota’s then-No. 68 Matic Spec, 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-5).
In conference play, the native of Warsaw, Poland, defeated North Carolina’s then-No. 19 Ronnie Schneider, 7-5, 6-4, Notre Dame’s then-ranked No. 54 Josh Hagar, 6-4, 4-6, 6-1, and Duke’s then-ranked No. 89 Spencer Furman, 6-7 (3-7), 6-1, 1-0 (10-7).
In singles, he won a team-high 12 matches, all at the top position, and earned the most wins in doubles with 11, alongside junior teammate Nile Clark.
