@CanesTrack Travels to Texas for Michael Johnson Invitational

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami track and field team is back in action this weekend, competing at the Michael Johnson Invitational and at the Virginia Challenge.

The Hurricanes will be part of a talented field at the 2017 Michael Johnson Invitational at Clyde Hart Track & Field Stadium on the campus of Baylor University in Waco, Texas. The event will feature top athletes from Baylor, Abilene Christian, Air Force, Angelo State, Cal. State-Fullerton, George Mason, Lamar, Miami, Northern Illinois, Notre Dame, SMU, Stephen F. Austin, Tarleton State, Texas, Texas A&M, Texas A&M-CC, TCU and Texas Tech.

Action at the Michael Johnson Invitational begins at 10 a.m., ET, with the men’s and women’s javelin. The afternoon running events kick off at 2 p.m., ET with the women’s and men’s 1500m, while the evening running session begins at 6 p.m., ET with the 3000m steeplechase. The 4x400m relay will close the meet at 8:50 p.m., ET.

Texas natives Brandon Taylor and Samantha Gonzalez will be two Hurricanes looking to shine in their home state. Taylor is slated to run in the men’s 100m, while Gonzalez is entered in the women’s 400m hurdles and is part of Miami’s 4x400m relay pool.

A pair of Hurricane distance runners will be in action at the Virginia Challenge on the campus of the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Va. Gabrielle Hesslau is entered in the women’s 10,000m on Friday night at 9:20 p.m., while Sean Grossman will race in the men’s 10,000m on Saturday at 9:40 p.m.

Following this weekend’s action, the Canes will travel to Gainesville, Fla., to compete at the Tom Jones Invitational. To view the complete Miami track and field schedule for the 2017 season, click here.
