CORAL GABLES, Fla. The University of Miami women’s tennis team is set for a doubleheader Friday in Blacksburg, Va.

No. 39 Miami will first meet Virginia Tech at 3 p.m., at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center to begin the final weekend of the regular season. After that, the Hurricanes take on Longwood, with the match set to start no earlier than 6:30 p.m.

This will mark the first time the Hurricanes play a doubleheader since March 30, 2003. That also came in Blacksburg, as Miami topped Richmond, 5-0, and then defeated Virginia Tech, 5-2.

Miami (8-10, 6-6 ACC) has two players in the ITA national rankings, with junior Sinead Lohan at No. 17 and freshman Estela Perez-Somarriba at No. 38.

In doubles, 16th-year head coach Paige Yaroshuk-Tews’ team has one ranked duo, as Lohan and redshirt senior Maci Epstein hold the No. 64 position.

The Hurricanes are 17-1 all-time against Virginia Tech, including 7-1 on the road, outscoring the Hokies by a total margin of 102-15. Miami has posted nine shutouts versus Virginia Tech and conceded multiple points just three times. In the most recent meeting, the Hurricanes registered a 6-1 home win on March 18, 2016 over then-No. 32 Virginia Tech.

Headed into the weekend, the Hokies are 11-10 (4-8 ACC) on the season. Virginia Tech has a pair of nationally-ranked players, led by Natalie Novotna at No. 84. Francesca Fusinato follows her at No. 102 on the list.

Additionally, the Hokies feature one doubles team ranked by the ITA, as Fusinato and Caroline Daxhelet hold the No. 61 spot.

The Hurricanes’ Friday evening contest against Longwood will mark the first time they take on the Lancers.

Longwood is 6-13 (1-6 BSC) thus far in 2017. The Lancers do not have any players or doubles pairs ranked by the ITA.
